The Frayer model allows students to look at a word in multiple ways. They are challenged not only for their own definition of the concept, but they also need to describe the characteristics of the concept alongside examples of what it is and what it is not. Picking apart a word like this can create greater depth in understanding than is usually seen by simply reviewing and quizzing vocabulary words.
